The 50+50 FUND
WHAT IS IT? WHY SHOULD YOU HELP?

The Mount Horeb Area Historical Society Board of Directors and longtime Attorney and Former Village President Peter Waltz challenge you to help protect and secure the future of your local history. Between now and May 31, 2026*, the Mount Horeb Area Historical Society seeks $100,000 for the 50+50 Fund, in honor of our 50 years of service to community.

Peter Waltz, recently retired from the Peter J. Waltz Law Firm after 53 years of successful practice, is well known and respected in the Mount Horeb area and beyond for his dedication to and leadership within the community. His generous investment of $25,000, coupled with an additional $25,000 collectively contributed by the volunteer members of the MHAHS Board of Directors, forms the basis for the 50+50 Fund challenge.

We hope you’ll consider matching their commitment to and belief in MHAHS’s meaningful and important mission of history-saving and sharing.

Our 2025 50th anniversary milestone is the perfect moment to reflect upon the good work we’ve accomplished, through the generosity of our supporters –and position ourselves for another five decades of building community through history.

GOAL #1 : An investment in today, $50,000 for operations account.
GOAL MET! THANK YOU to those who helped us reach this milestone!
The first $50,000 will be earmarked for MHAHS’s operations account.
These vital funds will be applied to utility bills and facility maintenance and repairs, to
staff payroll and preservation supplies.
By contributing to these everyday expenses, you make another day of saving and sharing history possible.
GOAL #2 : An investment in the future. $50,000 to kickstart *NEW* endowment account.
If the second $50,000 goal is reached, MHAHS will deposit these funds into a new endowment account—a sustainable revenue stream that can then be cultivated and grown over time.**
All gifts added to this account will be carefully managed and invested by experienced financial partners at the Madison Community Foundation. Under their careful stewardship, MHAHS can expect to perpetually receive 3-5% in interest income --yes, perpetually!
When managed carefully, endowments are one of the most secure routes to financial sustainiability.

As MHAHS navigates a nonprofit landscape that is becoming squeezed by increasing and varied public needs, a carefully managed endowment is, without question, one of the most secure routes to financial sustainability.
Help us build a stable financial foundation, as we chart a course in an unstable sea of change.

Interested in donating to the 50+50 Fund? Use the donate button on this page and contribute safely and quickly via credit or debit card, call 608-437-6486, or email [email protected].
*MHAHS will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a slate of special exhibits and programs between May 2025 and May 2026. The 50+50 Fund will align with this commemorative period.

**The Madison Community Foundation, a respected Wisconsin community trust, will hold and manage these funds on behalf of MHAHS.
