This contemporary frame building was erected for National Savings and Loan in 1975. Since 1982, it housed Anchor Savings and Loan (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls; Mount Horeb Presettlement to 1986, p. 30). This property was owned by National Savings and Loan from 1975 until 1982, and by Anchor Savings and Loan (now called Anchor Bank) since 1982 (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls). National Savings and Loan is not eligible for historic designation, and is a noncontributing element in the potential locally-designated Main Street Historic District. |

This frame Queen Anne-influenced gable-ell house was erected for D.J. Murphy in 1893 (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls). The Murphy family retained ownership of the house until 1906. In 1905, Mrs. Murphy operated a restaurant in the house (Sanborn-Perris Map of Mount Horeb). Later long-time residents were Ole Olson and family, who lived in the house from 1909 until 1947. Olson was a tailor, who had apprenticed with Mount Horeb's first tailor, Louis Lewis. In 1901, Olson established his own tailor shop (The Mount Horeb Centennial Book, 1861-1961, p. 45). He kept his shop in the house for many years. Later, Dr. Abner Kjervik's office was located in the house (1961-81?). It has been a women's clothing shop, "Her Closet," since 1981 (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls; The Mount Horeb Centennial Book, 1861-1961, p.30). This property was owned by D.J. Murphy from 1893 until 1903, and by the B. Murphy estate from 1903 until 1906. It was owned by H.J. Jackson in 1907, by David Lewis in 1908, and by Ole and Pauline Olson from 1909 until 1935. The property was owned by Pauline Olson from 1935 until 1947, by Lewis and Alice Johnson from 1947 until at least 1980, and by Leland and Nancy Vogel since at least 1985 (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls). The Murphy/Olson House is not individually eligible for historic designation, but is a contributing element in the potential locally-designated Main Street Historic District. |

This frame Queen Anne house was erected for P.G. Krogh in 1893. Olaf Golbin was the mason, and the Kleven Brothers were the contractors (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls; Mount Horeb Times, July 2, 1893). Although the house's integrity is compromised by the aluminum siding and side addition, it retains several Queen Anne features including a round tower with conical roof, and a wrap-around porch with turned posts and balusters, and a spindle frieze. P.G. Krogh owned and operated a hardware store at 100 East Main Street (which see) from 1883 until 1893. Krogh was also postmaster from 1883 until 1885 (The Mount Horeb Centennial Book, 1861-1961, p. 24). The house has been in commercial use since about 1966, and has been the location of Open House Imports since about that time (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls). This property was owned by P.G. Krogh from 1892 until his death (sometime between 1915 and 1920), and by his wife Christine thereafter until at least 1935. It was owned by Sidney Lee in 1940, and by Ernest Maurer from at least 1945 until 1966. The property has been owned by Leland and Nancy Vogel since 1966 (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls). The Krogh House is probably not eligible for historic designation, but it is a contributing element in the potential locally-designated Main Street Historic District. |
