Since 1975, The Mount Horeb Area Historical Society has carefully acquired material culture that interprets the past, present and future of southwestern Dane county. Portions of the Historical Society's material culture collection are included on the Wisconsin Decorative Arts Database, an international resource based at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
The Mount Horeb Area Historical Society's Artifact collection currently contains approximately 25,000 objects including textiles, furnishings and folk art. The artifacts represent the activities of regional agriculture, businesses, organizations, medicine, military, sports, education, religion, transportation, communication, music and crafts. The Society has a small archaeological collection and is the official repository of finds from the excavations at Donald Park.
All of these items have been accessioned and cataloged using Past Perfect software. Not all of the objects, however, have been photographed. The facility is handicap accessible.
