Current and Historic SCHOOLS

Picture

Schools served the agrarian communities of Southwestern Dane County and the Driftless Area of Wisconsin from the 1840s until the 1960s. More than 40 one-room schools, that dotted the countryside, were built and administered by local families for their children. In 1964 the schools were consolidated into three buildings in Mount Horeb.

Thanks to John Pare, retired school administrator, who provided most of the school descriptions.
