Notes: 1852 - 1969. The first Daleyville School was a log
school built in 1852 and used for 14 years. In February 1868 a new
school was built in Section 17 near O.B. Dahle's 2nd store. Hans Grinder bought the old school
and moved it to his farm where it was used as a blacksmith shop.
Twenty-five years later, in December 1893, Gabe Lewis built a new two
room school near the village. Thore Smesrud bought the old school
and it, too, became a blacksmith shop.
A new building was built across from the Perry Lutheran Church as a 2-room schoolhouse in 1893. Between 1894 and 1969 the school had Grades 1 through 10 at various times. The primary department - grades 1 through 4- remained until 1969. A 9th grade was added to the upper department in 1922 and in 1923 a 10th grade was added and used until 1925. In 1924 many of the older children transferred to the high school in Mount Horeb. The school operated until 1969 when, under pressure from the State, Daleyville consolidated with the Mt. Horeb School District. The school was sold by public bid to the Walker family who continues to make it their home in 2014.
It is noted in 1924 January edition of The Mt. Horeb Times that in 1857 Ole H. Rindy lived with his and another family in the old log school house when he returned from the Civil War. He mentions that he attended school with Jens Lee as teacher. His last year at the school the teacher was Ole O. Barton from Blue Mounds. He thought that the school was in use during the Civil War.
