District: 2
Notes: 1857-1962. A wood frame one-room school was built
in 1857. It was located on the Malone farm in the NW4 of Section 29. In 1908 this school was replaced by a stone building
across the road and a quarter mile south on the Donald Farm. The new
school retained the Malone name. The first teacher of the 49 students was Albert Shutvet. The last teacher was Isabel Leinau who had 27 pupils
This building served the area’s children until 1962 when it, along with many other schools in the area, were consolidated into the Mount Horeb Area School District. The school building continues to be used in 2014 as a home and, appropriately perhaps, the renter is a teacher of English in a nearby high school.
