310 East Main - 320 East Main Street (north side)

310-312 East Main Street (Dr. Albert Grove Chiropratic Clinic)
Picture
310 East Main
This contemporary building was erected in 1970 to house the offices of Dr. Albert Grove's chiropractic clinic. Dr. Mark Bohl joined the practice in 1980 (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls; Mount Horeb Presettlement to 1986, p. 30). In 1996, it housed the Bohl Chiropractic Clinic. This property was owned by Dr. Albert Grove from 1970 until at least 1985. In 1996, it was owned by Dr. Mark Bohl. The Grove Chiropractic Clinic is not eligible for historic designation.

316 East Main Street (Katherine Gesme House)
Picture
316 East Main Street
This frame gabled-ell house was erected for Katherine Gesme in 1893 (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls). It exhibits the influence of the Queen Anne style in the shingled gable ends. The porch is probably not original, but has turned posts and balusters, and spindle frieze, which are compatible with the character of the house. The house was probably identical to the one at 320 East Main Street when it was erected. This was the home of Katherine Gesme from 1893 until at least 1910 (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls). John Haugrud, a contractor, and his wife Carrie lived here from 1919 until perhaps the late 1940s. In 1996, it was an [sic] realty office. The property was owned by Katherine Gesme from 1893 until at least 1910, by Margaret Gesme (and later, her estate) from at least 1915 until 1919, and by John Haugrud from 1919 until at least 1945, by Bert Pfister from at least 1950 until at least 1975, and by Hermena Pfister since at least 1980 (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls). The Gesme House is not individually eligible for historic designation.

320 East Main Street (A.F. Gramm House)

Picture
320 East Main Street
This frame gabled-ell house was erected for photographer Anton F. Gramm in 1893 (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls; Mount Horeb Times, August 24, 1893). It has unfortunately lost whatever Queen Anne detail it may have had, and has been asbestos-sided. Anton Gramm (1862-1926) had a photo studio in Mount Horeb from at least 1882 until at least 1925 (Wisconsin State Gazetteer and Business Directory). His first photo gallery was located on the second floor of the Erick Gesme building on Perry Street just south of Main (The Mount Horeb Centennial Book, 1861-1961, p. 26). It was located on the second floor of Mount Horeb Bank Building at 105 East Main Street (Mount Horeb Presettlement to 1986, p. 19) from 1892 until 1925. Gramm also served as Justice of the Peace in 1891, and from 1901 to 1905 (Wisconsin State Gazetteer and Business Directory). This property was owned by Anton F. Gramm, and later his estate, from 1892 until at least 1940. It was owned by William Thousand, and later his estate, from at least 1945 until at last [least] 1950. The property was owned by Einar Peterson, and later his estate, from at least 1955 until at least 1960. It was owned by Stanley Weise from at least 1965 until at least 1975, and by Myrtle Weise since at least 1980 (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls). The Gramm House is not individually eligible for historic designation.
