502 Springdale Street
This two-story cube frame house was constructed for Ole Moen in 1895 (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls; Mount Horeb Times, June 20, 1895). It shows the influence of the Queen Anne style in the shingled gables, and multi-pane second-story window. The house also features a two-story full-facade porch with Doric columns on the first floor, and paneled piers and paneled rails on the second floor. Ole Moen operated a general store with Iver Lund from at least 1893 until at least 1897 (Wisconsin State Gazetteer and Business Directory). The grocery was located in the building now at 100 South Third Street, when that building was located at 225 East Main Street (Mount Horeb Presettlement to 1986, p. 23). This property was owned by Ole Moen from 1895 until at least 1915, by August Thousand from at least 1920 until at least 1925, by Gernhauser and Richardson from at least 1930 until at least 1940, by August Gerke from at least 1945 until at least 1960, by Lawrence Keller in 1965, by Kenneth and Melba Huseth from at least 1970 until at least 1975, by Joel and Merle [Merel] Black in 1980, and by Leland and Nancy Vogel since at least 1985 (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls). Joel and Merle [Merel] Black operated an antique store in the house in the early 1980s (Mount Horeb Presettlement to 1986, p. 30). The Ole Moen House is not individually eligible for historic designation. |

506 Springdale Street
This brick-veneered bungalow was built for Robert and Julia Beat in 1926 (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls). It is a fine and intact example of a bungalow, featuring a dominant side-gabled roof with a gabled dormer, brackets with knee braces, an overdoor on brackets with knee braces over each of the side and front entrances, and a canted bay window. Robert Beat was vice-president of the State Bank of Mount Horeb (Wisconsin State Gazetteer and Business Directory). This property was owned by Robert Beat from 1925 until at least 1945, by Leo Sutter from at least 1950 until at least 1955, by Robert Oimoen in 1960, by David Flom in 1965, by William Basthemer from at least 1970 until at least 1980, and by Frederick and Beulah Bendorf since at least 1996 (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls). The Beat House is individually eligible for designation as a Mount Horeb Historic Site as a good and intact example of a bungalow. |

508 Springdale Street
This frame Foursquare house was built for George Thompson in 1915 (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls). It is a good and intact example of a Foursquare, and has a very nice curving, wrap-around front porch with Doric columns. This property belonged to George Thompson, and later his estate, from 1915 until at least 1955. It was owned by Josephine Thompson from at least 1960 until at least 1965, by Grace Williams and Georgia Himsel in 1970, and by Charles Himsel since at least 1975 (Village of Mount Horeb Tax Rolls). The George Thompson House is probably individually eligible for designation as a Mount Horeb Historic Site as a good and intact Mount Horeb Foursquare. |
