(Albert O Barton, managing editor of the WI State Journal (1905), was born Dec11, 1869 on a farm in the Town of Primrose. He was the son of Ole Barton and Mary Ann Twedten, both of Norway. Ole came to America in 1848 at 7 years old, Mary Ann in 1852 at 3 years old. The Barton family located in the Town of Blue Mounds, so Ole was educated there. Ole enlisted in the 23rd WI Infantry in 1862 and mustered out in 1865 at Mobile. He married Mary Ann when on furlough in 1863. Following the war, he farmed on one of the La Follettes farms in Primrose. He eventually bought several farms, totaling 224 acres. Mary Ann died Aug 16, 1878 at the age of 38 years. In 1881 he married Ingeborg Oakland of the town. He fathered 5 children by his first wife, 8 by his second wife. He was justice of peace, town clerk, town chairman and school district clerk.

Albert attended high school in Dodgeville, then the University of Wisconsin, getting a degree in B. L. in 1896. He entered the newspaper field. He married Ada, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Thomas Winterbotham of Madison, on Jun 24, 1901. They had 2 children. (3. Vol III, page 65-6.) According to the 1870 US Census, Ole O and Ammalle Barton were living in the Town of Primrose. Ole was 29 years old, a farmer. Ammalle was 28. Both were born in Norway. They had three children: Isaac O 6, Emma M 2 and Albert O 5/12, all born in Wisconsin.
