Presbyterian Church of Mt. Horeb
Mt. Horeb Village
|
SH 78 N of Springdale on W edge of Union Cemetery
|
Operated: 1848
Notes: In 1848 a small group of Presbyterians has erected a church near the southwest entrance of the Union Cemetery. Reverend James Donald Served this church after his arrival in 1855 and his family members referred to the congregation as the “folks on the prairie” in their letters of correspondence. This congregation was struggling by the time of his arrival and the congregation eventually joined forces with the Methodist which had a building next door on the site that in 1861 was named Mount Horeb. The Presbyterian Church building was then sold to be converted into a store. It was moved to a corner site on the Mount Vernon an Old Badger roads, now 525 Springdale Street.
