Elder Lincoln
"Elder Lincoln was the minister and helped build the church as he was a carpenter by trade. It was the only church Riley ever had. It was struck by lightning in 1920 and burned." from Centennial history, Township of Springdale, Dane County, Wisconsin: souvenir booklet, 1848-1948. The Springdale Snippets stated that "in 1900 the Riley Church collected money to convert Italy to Protestantism".
From: Life History of Wm. C. Dunn, Riley, Wis., ca. 1926. "About 1890, Rev. G.W. Lincoln collected money and built a Baptist church on the land of William Riley, the founder of Rile's Station. About 20 were baptized at Riley Hall one Sunday in November. The church had three or four pastors and about 1900 it was closed. Some of it members died and others moved away." |
